Another splash move for the Chicago Bears has been made.
A day after acquiring Los Angeles Rams guard Jonah Jackson, Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles dips back into the trade market, this time adding First-Team All-Pro guard Joe Thuney from the Kansas City Chiefs, in exchange for a 2026 fourth-round pick.
Thuney, a primary left guard, played left tackle for most of the Chiefs’ 2024 season due to injuries along the offensive line. Despite the position change, Thuney still was a First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection for Kansas City.
For Chicago, this is a much-needed move, when talking to the media at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Ryan Poles was blunt while referencing the Bears’ offensive line issues in 2024 and the necessary upgrades to protect their hopeful franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams.
Outside of exceptional play, Joe Thuney brings in a resume of success and leadership that the Bears offensive line has been lacking since Kyle Long. In his nine NFL seasons, Thuney has won four Super Bowls, two First-Team All-Pros, and three Pro Bowl selections.
While on the surface this is a confusing move on the side of the Chiefs, they are currently against the wall when it comes to the salary cap, especially after franchise tagging their other guard, Trey Smith.
Now, all eyes shift to what Chicago does both at center in free agency and with the tenth overall selection in April’s 2025 NFL Draft.
