Ryan Poles and the Chicago Bears went out and made a massive splash acquiring six-time Pro Bowler, Keenan Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports first reported the deal.
Keenan Allen is entering the final year of a four-year extension signed in 2020.
The Chargers approached Allen about a potential pay cut, but ultimately it was declined by the superstar wide receiver. With a $5 million roster bonus due on Sunday, the Chargers thought it would be best to ship Keenan Allen to the Windy City, playing opposite another star receiver in D.J. Moore.
Bears wide receivers coach, Chris Beatty, was with Allen and the Chargers between 2021 and 2023.
In what was considered a down year, Keenan Allen still caught a career-high 108 passes for 1,243 yards and seven touchdowns. Allen made his sixth Pro Bowl following the 2023 NFL season.
The Bears only have four picks remaining in the 2024 NFL Draft (1 via Carolina, 9, 75, and 122 via Philadelphia) after trading their own fourth-round pick (110) to the Chargers in the trade that landed them Keenan Allen.
The Bears needed to make a move at wide receiver after losing Darnell Mooney to the Atlanta Falcons. Chicago now holds one of the top wide receiver duos in the NFL, while potentially still being in the market for a third receiver either through the draft or free agency.
The Bears’ offensive weapons now include D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, Cole Kmet, Gerald Everett, and D’Andre Swift.
Regardless of whoever the quarterback is, either Justin Fields or Caleb Williams, there will not be a lack of talent in the Shane Waldron-led Bears offense.
